Coding with Jeff

Introducing Coding with Jeff 🎉

I’ve wanted to create a tech-focused blog for a few years now, but I’ve always found it difficult to start. The conversation in my head generally went like this:

Me: You know, I should really start that blog I’ve been meaning to…

Conscience: Yeah, you should. How about we get it set up this weekend?

Me: Ok cool, that sounds like a good plan. What should we write about?

Conscience: I don’t know, how about <insert idea here>?

Me: That could work…but of course, in order to write about that, we first need somewhere to write it.

Conscience: True, so let’s work on creating our site and workflow first.

Me: Awesome! You know how much I love to tinker!

And that’s where it would end. I’d spend a day or two playing around with Jekyll, Hugo, Squarespace, Medium, you name it, decide I didn’t like the design, and give up. Apparently it wasn’t as good of a plan as I had thought. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So what happened? What finally made me just go for it and set this up? Well, it was actually a bit of a spur of the moment thing. I was talking to a friend that I look up to, and I had asked him how he comes up with ideas for his blog, and how I could avoid getting trapped in tinker land like I’ve done so many times in the past. He explained that his only goal is to get his words out, and that any design that gets in the way of that is a non-starter. And then he said, “Once you have something published, send me a link…” 😳

After that, I was pretty much on the hook, and needed to do something. I don’t know if he did it knowingly or intentionally, but my friend definitely gave me the kick in the pants I needed to start. And so here we are! I’d like to officially welcome you to Coding with Jeff, my new blog! I’m mostly going to write about technical things relating to development on Apple platforms, but I may veer off every now and then to explore something unrelated that’s interesting to me. I am also very into design, so I’ll likely talk about that as well (my coworkers tell me I’m half engineer, half designer 🙃).

Hopefully you’ll find what I write about helpful and interesting, and if you have something specific you’d like me to dive into, please let me know on Twitter!
